chicken and music videos

i don't know how to say this without it sounding... well, the way it will sound but...

i miss my mom...
a lot.

a lot a lot.

it feels like i can't reach her very easily because she has so much going on right now, and so do i...

plus, i think, the changes that are inherent in marriage create some necessary distance in the parent-child relationship....

but i'm hoping that it won't be like this for long, because...
matt is my spouse, my companion, my confidant, my partner in crime...

but mom? is more than my mom, she's my best friend... and i really, really miss her.

and i don't want her to be sad, but... i hope she misses me, too.

everyone wants to know how married life is,
and my answer is always the same - fantastic.
i LOVE life, and i am so blessed to have my husband by my side.
it's nice to have a partner - someone who doesn't mind to get up in the middle of the night and turn the heat down or grab the tylenol when you're not feeling well... someone to make brownies for,
someone to wake up in the morning and start a new day with -
someone to come home to after work each night...
i know that, if i forget to turn a burner off or get stuck in the bathroom without any toilet paper, he's got my back... and i've got his...

in the two weeks since we've been home, we've stayed up too late watching movies, and tried unsuccessfully to make our tiny little bathtub fit two people... we've laughed harder than we've laughed in a long time, and cried over things that we'll laugh about in a few years... and, really, we've just...savored (almost) every moment together.

this weekend has been especially amazing - although, i type that and, honestly, it hasn't been any more spectacular than every other day we've spent together, but...
well, we've had some pretty cool once-in-a-lifetime moments this weekend.

see, Friday i got called in early to work, so we went to 21st for a quick lunch before my long night. m ran errands about town - picking up his new glasses and such - and then was home not 10 minutes when he got a call back for an interview on MONDAY!

when i got home from work, we goofed off and set alarms and buckled down for the night, because we had to get up early for the music video shoot that we were being paid to be extras in!! one of our absolute favorite bands, Mute Math, shot a video in Nashville on Saturday and asked fans to participate. Mute Math's first video, Typical (which i posted a while back) has been nominated for a Grammy - so we were pretty stoked and expecting this video to be amazing - and we were not disappointed.
after eleven hours on the set and only 4 takes, the video looks indescribably cool - and while i could tell you all about it, i'll just wait until it comes out, for fear that words won't do it justice.

we celebrated the great day (and our $100 earned) with a meal at applebee's last night, then came home and absolutely crashed. i remember waking up sometime around 2 am, thirsting like nobody's business, so i got up and grabbed us each a drink and some ibuprofen (when you see the video, you will understand why) and slept hard again until the alarm went off at 8 to get up for church this am.

there are so many things that i could say about the changes and vision within our church, but i really don't know where to begin...

after we got home, i tried once again to fry chicken - and matt says i more than succeeded. for the first time, ever, i didn't burn it. not only did it not burn, though, it tasted pretty great. there was an unfortunate incident with the potatoes... blame me for trying to be resourceful and reheat the scalloped potatoes from the other night, but they scorched. still - the chicken saved the meal, and matt has requested fried chicken "at least once a week."
we'll just have to see about that...
